The Story
The Science of the Senses explores the complex, delicate and richly textured interface between our inner selves and the outer world.
Hearing takes us on a journey through the ear, into the brain and right into the heart of the human psyche. We meet neuroscientists, Daniel Levitin, Oliver Sacks and Steven Pinker, a woman whose brain cannot “hear” music to a deaf musician who is one of the world’s top percussionists, Evelyn Glennie.
Touch celebrates the secret language of our first sense. We meet Ian Waterman, a man who has lost his sense of touch and developed some amazing strategies to compensate for his loss and a blind artist whose astonishing drawings demonstrate the power we may all possess to visualize the world by feeling it.
Explore The Science of the Senses and learn how scientists have made some of the most startling discoveries about how the senses work, how they shape our lives, and how they enrich the way we experience the world around us.
