The Story
We have all been told that vitamins are essential to our health and well-being, but do we really need them, and if so, what kinds of vitamins and supplements do we need, what are the recommended quantities, and what are the best sources?
Fast paced, fun, and energetic, The Curious Case of Vitamins and Me, directed and written by award-winning filmmaker and health fanatic Bryce Sage (Survival of the Fabulous), takes us to meet leading experts in the fields of health and nutrition and debunks myths and misconceptions around vitamins and supplements.
Bryce will do what it takes to get his answers. He heads to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, to learn how to decipher the “Daily Values” numbers found on food labels and discovers that we may not be getting exactly what we need from our food because of modern agricultural practices. On an insightful visit to a supplement factory to understand where vitamins originate, Bryce learns about the role geography and skin color play in our need for Vitamin D – a vitamin that most of us are deficient in.
Along the way, Bryce meets organic farmers, researchers, scientists and nutritionists who share their experience and research. Assisting Bryce on his mission are Dr. David Katz (Yale University Prevention Research Center), Dr. Katherine Milton (UC Berkeley), Dr. Reinhold Veith (Nutritional Scientist) and Dr. Scott Smith (NASA Lead Nutritionist). When it comes to vitamins and supplements, can you ever get too much of a good thing?
